Just a word about RELATIVISM. If relativism is true -- then there is no RIGHT or WRONG. If relativism is true -- then do what you want and no one can correct you. If relativism is true -- then why be good? This is just a starter and I will discuss this further into the blog.
The popular view today is that MORALITY is “RELATIVE” to the individual or their culture.
Psychology or Sociology declares simply that we should accept each other’s feelings or value systems.
DO REAL MORAL ABSOLUTES (RIGHT/WRONG) EXIST?
CONSIDER THE EXAMPLES OF QUARRELING:
1. “How’d you like it if someone did that to you?”
2. “You can’t do that, you promised!”
3. “Leave him alone, he’s not doing any harm.”
When someone says something like that, they’re not just disagreeing with the behavior that prompted the remark.
They’re appealing to some kind of standard of conduct—a standard that they expect the other person to know about and recognize as authoritative or binding.
THE REASONS FOR THE MORAL VALUE OF ACTIONS ARE BASED UPON A CODE OF LAWS OR PRINCIPLES THAT ARE A RECOGNIZED STANDARD FOR MORAL CONDUCT.
RELATIVISM depends on feelings to determine what one ought to do.
ABSOLUTISM relies on overarching moral principles that all people recognize, such as:
natural law, conscience, and to many - the Golden Rule.
It is time to go watch TV now and watch a "SITCOM." By the way, situation comedy is what RELATIVISM is all about. What do you think?
